New Teak Deck
The new deck has taken almost exactly double the time quoted to complete, but perhaps the initial 6 week estimate was a little ambitious. One of the factors was down to the weather, or more precisely the rain! No idea if records will confirm or otherwise, but even the locals have said the amount of rainfall for the time of year was unusually high.
All credit to Jose Corado and his workers who have done a great job, at a price considerably less than we would expect to have paid in say the UK. The teak is still relatively expensive, but the labour rate here is very competitive and quality of workmanship very high.
A time consuming aspect was the removal of all the deck fittings, and the limited access to backing plates and nuts from inside the boat. We also had Jose refurbish the teak toe-rail.
Eventually the deck and the toe-rail will turn a silver grey colour, but although we plan to coat the toe-rail in clear Cetol, the deck will just get a bucket of seawater thrown over it.
Jose has another teak deck to replace on a Swan yacht, and will be starting work on that in a few weeks time.
It is probably best to let the pictures tell the story, although we have dozens more we have just included a selection. If anyone reading this has any specific queries, please drop us a line via the contact us form.*
* Please note, we are about to leave the marina and will be without access to WiFi until we can find some along our routes. Apologies in advance for any delays in replying to your queries.
Thank you.
