Les Saintes

Les Saintes

So our passages up the islands and between have been really good, and whilst the one from Dominica was not bad, it was very lumpy and extremely gusty. So much so we managed to round up in one gust. It was time for a more conservative sail plan.
Last season, for reasons we can no longer recall, we bypassed Les Saintes, and Guadeloupe, both on our way up and then back down.
Having made the decision to stay another season in the Caribbean, we really wanted to rectify that.

Iles Des Saintes can be found South West of Guadeloupe, as shown on the chartlet below.

And in more detail on this one.

It is a very pretty place.

Les Saintes anchorage and mooring area

We had been hugely lucky to pick up a mooring buoy when we arrived. So we booked it for five days at 12€ a night.
You can anchor, but it is a lot further from the dinghy dock.

Whilst ashore we picked up a map, and asked about a couple of hikes. The first one we did was not taxing at all. In the guide book it describes it a suitable for elderly cruise ship passengers!

The first hike we did was to Fort Napoleon.
The Fort is open to the public for a five euro per person entry fee. Inside the well preserved Fort is a museum which was very interesting. We elected to walk up from the town, and although it is a steep climb, it was not taxing. You can hire a scooter, electric buggy, or even and electric bicycle if you wanted.

The little town is also full of character.

The next day we undertook a more challenging hike. It was worth it for the views though.

Next stop will be mainland Guadeloupe in a couple of days time.
